Just when you think the global warming (excuse me, climate change)warnings could not get anymore hysterical orgoofier (Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes have frozen over after all), Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc (NYSE: CMG) is sounding the alarm (which may rally all of the Sofritas vegan tofu eaters of America)overits potentialthreattoguacamole, but small cap avocado stock Calavo Growers, Inc (NASDAQ: CVGW) continues to grow investor returns no matter what the weather is doing and has outperformed PowerShares DB Agriculture Fund (NYSEARCA: DBA).First and as noted by ThinkProgress.org, Chipotle Mexican Grill latest Annual Form 8-K reported:

For instance, two years of drought conditions in parts of the U.S. have resulted in significant increases in beef prices during late 2013 and early 2014. Increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change, could have a significant impact on the price or availability of some of our ingredients. Any increase in the prices of the ingredients most critical to our menu, such as chicken, beef, cheese, avocados, beans, rice, tomatoes and pork, would adversely affect our operating results. Alternatively, in the event of cost increases with respect to one or more of our raw ingredients, we may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

One stock that's quickly moving within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Arotech (ARTX), which is a defense and security products and services company. This stock is off to a booming start in 2013, with shares up big by 82%.

If you take a look at the chart for Arotech, you'll notice that this stock has just started to trend back above its 50-day moving average of $1.86 a share with strong upside volume. Volume so far today has already registered over 600,000 shares, which is well above its three-month average action of 226,678 shares. This spike back above the 50-day is starting to push shares of ARTX within range of triggering a big breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ARTX if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $1.97 to $2.24 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 226,678 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then ARTX will set up to re-test or possibly take out its 52-week high at $2.71 a share. Any high-volume move above $2.71 will then give ARTX a chance to trend north of $3 a share.

Traders can look to buy ARTX off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support at $1.74 a share. One can also buy ARTX off strength once it takes out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Infosys (INFY), Housing Development Finance and Reliance Industries LTD are the top three holdings, with weightings between 8% and 10.5%. Of course, just about any India ETF will have a heavy allocation to Infosys and Reliance. However, INDA dedicates a lower percentage to energy than some of the alternatives, and instead leans more on IT and consumer spending.

Not all big oil firms are in Shell's position. Instead of charting relativity new waters, Statoil (NYSE: STO  ! ;)  simp! ly moves up the Norwegian Continental Shelf to develop its Arctic assets. One of its major strengths is that its majority shareholder is a national government that puts long-term interests in front of short term profiteering. Statoil also has acreage in some of the top U.S. shale plays. In Q1 2014 its equity production brought in 49.4 mboepd in the Bakken and 31 mboepd in the Eagle Ford.

There’s good news and bad news for offshore drillers today after Statoil (STO) canceled the contract on Diamond Offshore Drilling’s (DO) Ocean Vanguard rig. The bad news is that it’s another sign that demand for rigs is still not there. The good news is that while Diamond Offshore has gotten hammered, other drillers like Noble (NE), Transocean (RIG) and Seadrill (SDRL) have weathered the announcement better than many would have expected.

    Reuters

Global Hunter’s Mark Brown and team explain what the cancellation could mean for Diamond Offshore:

We model the Ocean Vanguard having an annualized marginal EBITDA contribution of ~$89MM (EPS contribution of ~$0.49/share) based on a $454K/day rate and $192K/day opex assumption. The contract has approximately eight months remaining through February 2015, implying a ~$59MM EBITDA potential impact (~$0.33/share).

We expect that if the contract has been terminated that DO would receive an early termination payment or other compensation in accordance with the contract’s stipulations. We also expect that the rig would be eligible to work for another client (although likely at a significantly lower rate given current market conditions) and would thus be able to recoup some of the marginal impact. However, it is unclear the extent to which any additional maintenance or upgrade work may be required in the yard.

The Vanguard is a third-generation midwater semi built in 1982. The apparent Statoil decision would be consistent with our expectations of bifurcation in many offshore drill! ing regio! ns as sixth- and seventh-generation capabilities are increasingly desired over standard-spec rigs.

As a result of the cancellation, shares of Diamond offshore Drilling have fallen 3.3% to $47.95 at 1:21 p.m., their biggest drop in nearly two months.

Statoil, however, did cite technical issues as the reason for the cancellation, so the issue seems specific to Diamond Off

5 Best India Stocks To Own Right Now

April is a key month for the agriculture calendar, and industry. The soybean harvest is half-way through in Latin America, while in the U.S. and China planting begins. Corn is another crop that will be planted in both countries, and in Europe. At the same time Australia plants winter wheat and a little later India will plant cotton. The high rate of activity around this specific month places great pressure upon agricultural input producers to delivery different nutrients and fertilizers, simultaneously, worldwide. To absorb these market synergies, companies are required to possess a well-oiled production and retail infrastructure. So, is Mosaic (MOS) up to the challenge?

Segments and Seasonal Needs

Not all fertilizers are required simultaneously. These are determined by crop type and soil quality. Hence, nitrogen is applied in great quantities in the U.S. for wheat production, while in Brazil phosphate and potash are the most demanded nutrients by the same crop. Part of the reason for differing application is the salinity of Brazilian soil. On the other hand, China in general demands a great quantity of nitrogen due to soil qualities. Last, phosphate is used worldwide for fruits and farm crops.

Goldman Sachs Downgrades US Stocks To Neutral, Sees Fed Increasing Rates In H1 2015

Related GS Follow Goldman with These Equity ETFs - ETF News And Commentary GE to Raise $3B in Synchrony Financial IPO What's Really Hampering the Housing Recovery (Fox Business)

After months and months of waiting for an expansion, Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) downgraded US stocks on Friday to Neutral for the next three months. The downgrade is driven by the expectation that rates will increase and cause equity returns to dampen. Goldman reversed their economic outlook based on the GLI metric in Q1 2014 and until then had seen US economic expansion as "still stuck".

The focus point will be the FED's so called "dashboard" which analyzes wage growth, broader measures of slack, payroll employment growth, and measures from the Job Openings and Labor Turnover (JOLTS) survey.

Best India Companies To Watch For 2015

A note released on Friday by Jan Hatzius highlighted expectations that the FED will increase rates in Q1 or Q2 of 2015 (emphasis Benzinga):

"Currently, however, the dashboard is considerably more depressed than the U3 gap, suggesting that how Fed officials lean between U3 and the dashboard will be a key issue for monetary policy over the next year. This point is highlighted by Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren’s April comment that he supports “keeping interest rates at their very low level until we are within one year of reaching full employment,” which he defined as a U3 rate of 5.25%. Since then, U3 has fallen by six-tenths, and under our forecast that one-year-away marker will be reached by Q1 or Q2 of 2015".

The FED estimate of U-3 5.35% as the full rate of unemployment will be used to gauge when the FED should increase rates. That threshold is projected to be reached in Q1 or Q2 of 2015. Incorporating that threshold into a relative analysis of the actual unemployment rate over 1992-2007 period provides a "reasonable full-employment benchmark" for other indicators. The image below shows payroll employment growth being the most "encouraging" indicator.

According to Bloomberg Brief, progress and managing slack remains uneven more than half way through the FED QE Taper The resiliency of the recovery is under pressure as we close in the FED wrap-up of QE and the expectation of a Fed Funds Rate hike.  Blind permabulls ought beware that for the next five months one of the worlds largest investment banks changed its view and looked for expansion only to reverse itself and downgrade equities under the premise that global acceleration in economic growth is "largely behind us".   The question now is, how much longer will hubris blind a majority of participants?

Top Financial Companies To Own In Right Now

This week's see-saw dynamic in U.S. stocks continues this morning, with the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC  ) and the narrower, price-weighted Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI  ) up 0.65% and 0.55%, respectively, at 10:05 a.m. EDT.

Moving in separate directions
Even before this week's stock market gyrations, which were kicked off by a sharp decline on Monday, many investors and pundits had been loudly calling for a correction. Indeed, the market's rally since last year's June low has been a dogged, low-volatility climb that appeared to break from the "risk-on/risk-off" dynamic that has governed asset markets in the aftermath of the financial crisis, despite the fact that many of the same macroeconomic headwinds remain.

One ominous sign for stocks can be found not in the stock market, but in bonds, with Treasury bonds in particular finding new favor with investors since early March. Bill Gross, who manages PIMCO's Total Return Fund, the world's largest bond fund, has lifted its allocation to U.S. Treasuries to 33% against 28% in February -- the highest it has been since July. The decline in yields suggests that the risk of deflation, or at least a slowdown in the economy, has increased.

Getty Images Bitcoin made headlines last year when the value of all outstanding pieces of the electronic currency reached nearly $10 billion. It's not just speculators drawn to the new currency. Many businesses are also attempting to cash in on this growth: Several public companies, including Zynga (ZNGA) and Overstock.com (OSTK), accept Bitcoins as a form of payment. Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen's firm has invested nearly $50 million in Bitcoin-related ventures, and it is looking to invest even more. And the Winklevoss twins -- who notoriously accused Facebook's (FB) Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their idea -- have been "in dialogue" with the SEC about opening the first Bitcoin exchange-traded fund, according to Bloomberg. Yet a new survey from TheStreet.com (TST) reveals that 76 percent of consumers are not familiar with Bitcoin -- and 79 percent would never consider owning a currency like it. Does this signal opportunity for savvy investors? Or is this a fad you'd be wise to avoid? The Basics of Bitcoin Bitcoin is a completely unregulated form of currency developed by an anonymous Japanese programmer (according to some apocryphal claims) as a completely digital, peer-to-peer payment system that is independent of national currencies (which, Bitcoin users argue, are all subject to the riskiness of the underlying country). Bitcoins are rewarded throughout the day to a "Bitcoin miner" whose computer solves a series of algorithms quicker than other miners. The puzzles become more difficult over time, so the calculations take longer and the computations require more computing power. There will eventually be a total of 21 million Bitcoins (12.4 million are in circulation today) and we won't reach the point that they are effectively "mined out" until 2040. The value of a Bitcoin is supposed to be market-driven, meaning they're worth whatever the two parties in a transaction value them as. For example, in one of the original Bitcoin transactions, a "mi

Mattel (MAT), the world's largest toymaker, agreed to buy Mega Brands (MB) for $460 million, acquiring the biggest challenger to Lego A/S in the construction-toy market. Mattel is offering C$17.75 ($16) a share, according to a statement today, a 36 percent premium over yesterday's closing price. The board of Montreal-based Mega Brands unanimously approved the transaction, and investors holding 39 percent of the stock, including Chief Executive Officer Marc Bertrand and Fairfax Financial Holdings (FFH), agreed to the deal. The purchase of Mega Brands, the world's second-largest maker of snap-together blocks, will fill a product hole for Mattel. It doesn't have its own construction line, locking it out of a $4 billion market in the U.S. and Europe. The category also is a bright spot in a toy industry that has seen growth stall in the U.S. Mattel considered starting its own construction line, then opted instead to buy Mega Brands because it would be faster and less risky, Mattel CEO Bryan G. Stockton said on a call with reporters. Mattel got its first taste of construction in 2012 when it debuted blocks for its Barbie brand through a licensing deal with Mega Brands. Mattel realized that replicating this kind of expertise would take years, Stockton said. 'About Growth' "This acquisition is all about growth," Stockton said. "We see an opportunity to expand our brands in this category across boys, girls and preschool." Mattel shares rose 0.8 percent to $37.44 at 10:34 a.m. in New York. The Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday amended its complaint against Richard Lee, a former portfolio manager at SAC Capital Advisors who the agency charged on July 25 with insider trading, to additionally charge Sandeep Aggarwal, the tipper of confidential information to Lee.

The SEC says that Aggarwal, a sell-side analyst, tipped Lee in advance of a July 2009 public announcement about an Internet search engine partnership between Microsoft and Yahoo.

Lee purchased large amounts of Yahoo stock in the SAC Capital hedge fund that he managed as well as in his personal trading account on the basis of the inside information.

In a parallel action, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York on Tuesday announced criminal charges against Aggarwal, who lives in India but recently returned to the U.S.

Sanjay Wadhwa, senior associate director of the SEC’s New York Regional Office, said in a statement that “Rather than rely on legitimate research methods, Aggarwal obtained confidential information from a close friend at Microsoft and passed it along to Lee knowing that he would likely trade on it.”

The VirnetX (VHC) short side has opened its toolbox unveiling a simple and manipulative tool idea. It has been suggested that the United States Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO") has a limitless amount of control over Federal Court decisions. Although the USPTO does have a bearing in the validity of patents, they in no way can nullify the decision of a Federal Court judge. New Bay Capital LLC ("New Bay") is utilizing inter partes reviews through the USTPO, although a Federal Court judge is not bound by the USTPO's findings.

Hot Forestry Stocks To Invest In 2014: Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc (INO)

Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc., incorporated on June 29, 1983, is engaged in the development of a new generation of vaccines, called synthetic vaccines, focused on cancers and infectious diseases. The Company's SynCon technology enables the design of universal vaccines capable of providing cross-protection against existing or changing strains of pathogens, such as influenza and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The Company's electroporation delivery technology uses brief, controlled electrical pulses to increase cellular uptake of the vaccine. Its clinical programs include cervical dysplasia (therapeutic), avian influenza (preventive), prostate cancer (therapeutic), leukemia (therapeutic), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HIV vaccines. It is advancing preclinical research and clinical development for a universal seasonal/pandemic influenza vaccine, as well as preclinical work for other products, including malaria and prostate cancer vaccines. Its partners and collaborators include University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, National Microbiology Laboratory of the Public Health Agency of Canada, Program for Appropriate Technology in Health/Malaria Vaccine Initiative (PATH/MVI), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Merck, ChronTech, University of Southampton, United States Military HIV Research Program (USMHRP), the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) and HIV Vaccines Trial Network (HVTN). As of December 31, 2011 it owned 16.1% interest in VGX Int.

Inovio Solution

The Company synthetic vaccine platform consists of its SynCon vaccine design process and electroporation delivery technology. It has developed a preclinical and clinical stage pipeline of vaccines. The Company synthetic vaccines are designed to prevent a disease (prophylactic vaccines) or treat an existing disease (therapeutic vaccines). Its synthetic vaccine consists of a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) plasmid encoding a selected antigen! (s), which is introduced into cells of humans or animals with the purpose of evoking an immune response to the encoded antigen. The Company synthetic vaccines are designed to generate specific antibody and/or T-cell responses.

The Company SynCon technology provides processes that employ bioinformatics, which combine extensive genetic data and sophisticated algorithms. Its design process uses the genetic make-up of a common antigen(s) from multiple strains of a virus within a viral sub-type or taxonomic group (family) of pathogens, such as HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), human papillomavirus (HPV), influenza and other diseases to synthetically create a new antigen for the desired pathogen target that does not exist in nature. Its synthetic vaccine candidates are being delivered into cells of the body using its electroporation (EP) DNA delivery technology.

Cancer Synthetic Vaccines

The Company has two broad types of cancer vaccines: preventive (or prophylactic) vaccines, which are intended to prevent cancer from developing in healthy people, and treatment (or therapeutic) vaccines, which are intended to treat an existing cancer by strengthening the body natural defenses against the cancer. Two types of cancer preventive vaccines are available in the United States. The United States Food and Drug Administration (the FDA) has approved two vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix that protect against infection by the two types of HPV-types 16 and 18-that cause approximately 70% of all cases of cervical cancer worldwide. In addition, Gardasil protects against infection by two additional HPV types, 6 and 11, which are responsible for about 90% of all cases of genital warts in males and females but do not cause cervical cancer.

Cervarix manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, is composed of virus-like particles (VLPs) made with proteins from HPV types 16 and 18. Cervarix is approved for use in femalesages 10 to 25 for the prevention of cervical cancer caused by! HPV type! s 16 and 18. Gardasil manufactured by Merck, is approved for use in females for the prevention of cervical cancer, and some vulvar and vaginal cancers, caused by HPV types 16 and 18 and for use in males and females for the prevention of genital warts caused by HPV types 6 and 11. The vaccine is approved for these uses in females and males ages 9 to 26. The FDA has also approved a cancer preventive vaccine that protects against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.

Inovio VGX-3100 is designed to raise immune responses against the E6 and E7 genes of HPV types 16 and 18 that are present in both pre-cancerous and cancerous cells transformed by these HPV types. E6 and E7 are oncogenes that play an integral role in transforming HPV-infected cells into cancerous cells. In March 2011, it initiated a randomized, double-blind Phase II study of VGX-3100 delivered using the CELLECTRA intramuscular electroporation device in women with HPV Type 16 or 18 and diagnosed with, but not yet treated for, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 2/3. The study is designed to enroll 148 subjects. In January 2011, it announced the publication of a scientific paper in the journal Human Vaccines detailing potent immune responses in a preclinical study of its SynCon vaccine for prostate cancer targeting two antigens, prostate specific antigen (PSA) and prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA).

In January 2011, the Company announced the regulatory approval of a Phase II clinical trial (WIN Trial) to treat leukemia utilizing its new ELGEN 1000 automated vaccine delivery device. The single dose level, Phase II study, called WT1 immunity via DNA fusion gene vaccination in haematological malignancies by intramuscular injection followed by intramuscular electroporation. Cancer Vaccines encodes for hTERT, an antigen related to non-small cell lung, breast and prostate cancers. The vaccine is delivered using its electroporation delivery technology.

Infectious Disease Synthetic Vaccines

In Marc! h 2011, the Company announced the initiation of a follow-on open label, single dose Phase II clinical study in collaboration with ChronTech of the ChronVac-C HCV DNA vaccine delivered using its electroporation technology in treatment naive HCV infected individuals. Its HIV vaccines consist of candidates for HIV prevention, as well as therapy or treatment. PENNVAX-B is designed to target HIV clade B (most commonly found in the United States, North America, Australia and the European Union (EU). PENNVAX-G is designed to target HIV clades A, C and D, which are more commonly found in Asia, Africa, Russia and South America. This Phase I clinical study of PENNVAX-B (HVTN-080) vaccinated 48 healthy, HIV-negative volunteers to assess safety and levels of immune responses generated by Inovio PENNVAX-B vaccine delivered with its CELLECTRA electroporation device. PENNVAX-B is a SynCon vaccine that targets HIV gag, pol, and env proteins.

The Company VGX-3400X targets H5N1. The vaccine consists of three distinct DNA plasmids coded for a consensus hemagglutinin (HA) antigen derived from different H5N1 virus strains; a consensus neuraminidase (NA) antigen derived from different N1 sequences; and a consensus nucleoprotein (NP) fused to a small portion of the m2 protein (m2E) based on a broader cross-section of influenza viruses in addition to H5N1 and H1N1. Conventional vaccines are strain-specific and have limited ability to protect against genetic shifts in the influenza strains they target. They are therefore modified annually in anticipation of the next flu season new strain(s). It is focused on developing DNA-based influenza vaccines able to provide broad protection against known as well as newly emerging, unknown seasonal and pandemic influenza strains.

Animal Health/Veterinary

VGX Animal Health, Inc. (VGX AH), a majority-owned subsidiary, has licensed LifeTide, a plasmid-based growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) technology for swine. LifeTide is one of onl! y four DN! A-based treatments approved for use in animals and is the only DNA-based agent delivered using electroporation that has been granted marketing approval (Australia). VGX AH is also developing a GHRH-based treatment for cancer and anemia in dogs and cats. It is developing a synthetic vaccine for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) administered by its vaccine delivery technology. The FMD virus is one of the most infectious diseases affecting farm animals, including cattle, swine, sheep and goats, and is a serious threat to global food safety.

The Company competes with Crucell N.V, Sanofi-Aventis, Novartis, Inc., GlaxoSmithKline plc, Merck, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Inc., Novartis, Inc., MedImmune and CSL.

What's interesting, though, is that historically, auto-parts makers are seen as relying on the lack of success among automakers. After all, new cars don't need parts nearly as often as older cars do, and when Ford and GM perform well, their customers don't have to rely as much on Genuine Parts or competitors AutoZone (NYSE: AZO  ) and Advance Auto Parts (NYSE: AAP  ) for replacements. Yet, even though Advance's 15% gain, and AutoZone's 20% rise year to date, aren't quite as substantial as Genuine Parts, they still signal a paradigm shift in the way investors look at the industry, perhaps recognizing that for every new car sold, there's usually a used car that gets traded in, and so good news for Ford and GM sales might actually translate into more business for the parts industry.
